Course Description:
Every day thousands of children are sedated across the United States; in the absence of nationwide morbidity data, pediatric dentists are challenged as to how they manage risk in procedural sedation. This includes; assessment of the child’s overall health, knowledge of pharmacokinetics of sedatives, ability to provide immediate rescue as well as evaluation of temperament, This course will review all of the above in a comprehensive fashion, providing evidence for preventing adverse outcomes. Didactic material will be combined with clinical case scenarios.
Course Objectives:
- Learning comprehensive assessment of every child’s health prior to sedation.
- Learning pharmacokinetics of sedatives.
- Ability to provide immediate relief during sedation emergencies.
